Higher-ed brands need a usable promise

Butler University’s evolved identity connects a verbal platform to recruitment, campus signage, social content and institutional storytelling.

Butler University article about its evolved institutional brand

Butler’s “Setting the Standard for Bold” platform is designed to travel across recruitment and campus communications.

The Story

Butler University has introduced an evolved institutional brand anchored by “Setting the Standard for Bold,” with the identity intended to appear across advertising, recruitment materials, social media, signage, arts and athletics.

The strategic strength is its portability. Higher-education brands have to work across audiences with very different needs—prospective students, families, faculty, alumni, donors and local communities—without becoming a collection of disconnected campaigns.

A useful Studio Wensday lens: evaluate a university identity by the number of real decisions it helps people make. Does it shape photography, headlines, landing pages, event graphics and student stories—or only the presentation deck?
