A logo is only one move in the system

Calendly’s rebrand is a useful reminder that visual identity has to survive interpretation, scale and a company’s changing product story.

Creative Bloq article about Calendly’s revised identity

Calendly’s identity refresh responds to both visual interpretation and a broader product proposition.

The Story

Calendly has revised its logo, wordmark and wider identity as it moves beyond scheduling into AI-assisted productivity. The change follows criticism that the previous symbol was being read in an unintended—and distinctly distracting—way.

The lesson is not simply “test your logo.” It is to test the whole identity in the contexts where people will actually meet it: browser tabs, app icons, social crops, dark mode, motion, small screens and fast scrolls.

For a multidisciplinary studio, this is a strong case for presenting identity as a behaviour system. Show how a mark moves, how typography carries tone, how colour creates navigation and how the brand behaves when the logo is nowhere in sight.
