The prototype is only the opening move

Figma’s product leadership argues that AI makes prototyping easier, but direction, differentiation and the final stretch remain the hard parts.

A polished prototype doesn’t get you past the big questions.

Figma’s argument is a useful counterweight to the rush toward instant demos: the work still has to become desirable, distinctive and worth building.

The Story

Figma’s latest product essay makes a grounded point: AI can move teams from prompt to clickable prototype quickly, but speed does not answer whether the direction is right or whether the product feels like itself. The proposed disciplines are speed, direction and differentiation. In other words: keep momentum, consider multiple routes before committing, and push beyond the first acceptable output.

That is a strong creative-director brief for any web project. A fast prototype is evidence that something can exist. It is not yet evidence that it should exist in that form.

Studio Wensday Angle

Use AI to widen the early field of possibilities, not to avoid choosing deliberately.
