Design systems are gaining an instruction layer
Figma is adding guidelines, centralized libraries, and code sources so agents can follow a team’s established patterns.
The Story
Figma’s latest system updates go beyond reusable components. Teams can now attach guidelines to published libraries, bundle design and code libraries, and provide agents with more explicit instructions about how a system should behave.
This is a useful distinction: a design system is not only a collection of parts, but a set of decisions. The instruction layer captures tone, hierarchy, exceptions, and the difference between consistency and repetition.
For Studio Wensday, the practical opportunity is to build smaller, smarter systems. A compact brand kit with clear rules for type, image treatment, motion, and voice may be more valuable than a sprawling library nobody knows how to use.

The next design system is partly visual, partly conversational.
