Deep interaction beats the one-shot prompt

An experimental study with university students found stronger novelty and usefulness when AI-assisted work involved multi-round interaction rather than a single simple exchange.

experiments compared manual work, simple AI interaction, and deeper multi-round collaboration.

The Story

The useful finding is not that AI magically makes people creative. It is that the quality of the exchange matters. A first prompt may generate options; the deeper conversation is where criteria, context, and judgement begin to accumulate.

That maps closely to good creative direction. Brief, challenge, compare, edit, and explain is more valuable than asking for ten ideas and choosing the least awkward one.

For your own practice, use AI as a critic, reframer, and structured conversation partner. Keep the responsibility for the brief—and the final taste—firmly with the human. ([sciencedirect.com](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0732118X26000115?utm_source=openai))
