AI can make the deck; it cannot make the room care
Canva’s global Presentation Paradox study surveyed 4,000 professionals and found that polished slides do not remove presentation nerves or replace human delivery.
of surveyed professionals still get nervous presenting, even as AI makes slide creation easier.
The Story
Canva’s Presentation Paradox study reports that 74% of surveyed professionals still get nervous presenting, while 91% use AI monthly to help build slides. The gap is revealing: production friction is falling, but human communication remains difficult. ([canva.com](https://www.canva.com/newsroom/news/ai-presentation-study/))
For designers, the implication is to stop treating the deck as the finished object. Narrative pacing, speaker confidence, audience cues, and moments of emphasis are part of the design problem too.
Try building presentation systems with two layers: a visual layer that supports comprehension, and a delivery layer that tells the presenter where to pause, move, demonstrate, or invite response. That is where “beautiful slides” become useful slides.
