A design system can become an instruction layer for agents

Coinbase reports that connecting its design system to coding agents improved adherence and reduced token costs.

average reduction in token costs reported by Coinbase after using Code Connect with coding agents.

The Story

Coinbase’s Design System team used Figma Code Connect to give coding agents clearer relationships between design components and production code. The reported result: stronger design-system adherence and an average 22.5% reduction in token costs. ([figma.com](https://www.figma.com/blog/?utm_source=openai))

The bigger idea is that a design system is not only a consistency tool for people. It can also become structured context for machines—naming, intent, states and permitted combinations made legible to an agent.

For Studio Wensday, this points toward documenting systems in a way that is both visually elegant and operationally explicit. A beautiful component library becomes much more valuable when its rules can travel into build tools.
