Generative tools are becoming part of the visual system
Figma expanded generative plugins and shaders with publishing, animation, code access, and MCP connections between visual experiments and React implementation.
The Story
Figma’s latest update lets designers create generative plugins and shaders, publish them to Community or private organisations, and move between visual effects and editable code. ([figma.com](https://www.figma.com/blog/how-we-built-generative-plugins-and-shaders/?utm_source=openai))
This is a meaningful expansion of what a visual system can contain. Instead of treating motion, texture, distortion, or generative behaviour as one-off production tricks, teams can begin to package them as reusable creative instruments. For a multidisciplinary studio, the opportunity is to build a small internal library of signature behaviours: a few recognisable transitions, material treatments, and interactive gestures that make work feel authored rather than merely assembled.
