The design-to-prototype loop is becoming programmable

Vercel’s new v0 API points toward generating app previews as part of other tools and workflows.

01
Describe the product behaviour, not just the visual mood.
02
Generate a runnable prototype and test the interaction early.
03
Use the prototype to improve the brief before polishing the interface.

The Story

Vercel’s weekly update highlights a headless v0 API that can take prompts, generate complete apps, run them in sandboxes, and return preview URLs. The important shift is that generation can now sit inside another product or studio workflow.

For designers, this reduces the distance between a concept and something people can click. That makes early critique more concrete: instead of debating whether an idea might work, you can test the shape of it quickly.

The caution is equally important. A runnable prototype is not evidence of a resolved product. Use these previews as thinking tools, especially for flow and hierarchy, while keeping accessibility, content modelling, edge cases, and implementation quality in the human review loop.
